INX Computer Systems

We have many computers here at INX, here is a list of them!

Personal Computers

The hard working daily drivers!

Apophis

The main desktop! Built early 2020, right before the COVID-era computer market spike, this desktop replaced my original computer. Said original computer is now Pluto. Filled with RGB lighting, connected to an RGP keyboard, it looks great but is way too bright to keep on during the night.

Phones

Phones are computers too!

Athena

Our new phone! A Fairphone 4 we got on eBay, it’s been a great phone, barring the frustration of dealing with Verizon and dealing with having a European phone in the United States. Besides that, absolutely worth it. Because Fairphone is awesome, we experimented around with stock to make sure everything was working, then immediately switched to Lineage, and soon after rooted the phone. Very happy with it so far, and likely will for the foreseeable future. We went with the Fairphone 4 because it was an upgrade to our current phone, but wasn’t particularly expensive (only $400 new on eBay).

Type Kind
Model Fairphone 4
OS Lineage 23.0
Android 16
Storage 256GB Internal
Network US Mobile (Warp/Verizon)
Pronouns She/It

Minerva

Our old phone! A Samsung S10 we got long ago in the before-times of… 2019-ish. Verizon sucks, Samsung sucks, but I will fully admit we are extremely used to One UI on this version. We’d root it if we could, but we don’t want to take that risk or deal with the combined Samsung/Verizon hell for this, especially when we have a new phone that we could easily root.

Type Kind
Model Samsung S10
OS One UI 4.12
Android 12
Storage 128GB Internal, 256GB MicroSD
Network Verizon3
Pronouns She/It

Servers

We host many things, and these are (nigh always) hosted on personal hardware! Not every computer we have is actively doing something, but we do keep them around and running, just in case.

Daedalus

Our first rack server, and a lovely find from the Purdue Surplus Store! Originally purchased for $75, it came with 256GB of RAM but no storage. However, we got 6 500gb HDDs for free from a friend, and teamed up with another friend to get 4 500gb SSDs for just $100. We also got an extra 64gb of RAM for free from a friend

Type Kind
Model HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen 9
OS NixOS
CPU 2x Intel Xeon E5-2667 v3 (16) @ 3.6GHz
GPU Intel Arc A310 ECO
Memory 320GB DDR4
Storage 3x 500gb SSD, 5x 500gb HDD
Pronouns She/It4

Hestia

Our third5 rack server, and another lovely find from the Purdue Surplus Store! Purchased for just $25, this server has absolutely been the most cost effective investment ever. It has 192gb of RAM gotten for free from a friend, 2 1TB HDD. Its operating system is currently dead, likely from cooking an old flashdrive, so pending a reformat.

Type Kind
Model HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen 9
OS NixOS
CPU 2x Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 (20) @ 3.2GHz
GPU None
Memory 192GB DDR4
Storage 2x 2TB HDD, 1x 6TB HDD
Pronouns She/It

Pluto

Our old desktop, now since repurposed into a server computer. It currently isn’t being used for anything, but if we ever need another computer to run things on, it’s there! It’s occasionally useful for running tasks while we sleep so we don’t need to keep the (very bright) Apophis on overnight.

Type Kind
Model Custom Desktop
OS NixOS
CPU Intel Core i5-4690 (4) @ 3.9GHz
GPU Intel HD Graphics
Memory 16GB DDR4
Storage 256GB SSD, 256GB HDD
Pronouns He/It

Vulcan

A rack server run for Purdue Hackers, though owned and operated by me. Yet another ProLiant DL360 Gen 9 from Purdue Surplus, it serves to host the infrastructure of Purdue Hackers, as well as somewhat of a pubnix for the club.

Type Kind
Model HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen 9
OS NixOS
CPU 2x Intel Xeon E5-2667 v3 (16) @ 3.6GHz
GPU None
Memory 192GB DDR4
Storage 1x 500GB SSD, 1x 500GB HDD
Pronouns He/It

Dionysus

An OptiPlex 5050 Micro from (you guessed it) Purdue Surplus! It served as our first university-side server, and got us started with self hosting things more properly, compared to the limited things we did with Pluto. (Pluto was primarily limited by being in our home network, while Dionysus and Daedalus after it benefited from a static IP address assigned from our university.) Right now it’s in a quasi-server quasi-desktop state, serving primarily as a CUPS host for our receipt printer6 when it is in our dorm.

Type Kind
Model OptiPlex 5050 Micro
OS NixOS
CPU Intel Core i5-7500T (4) @ 3.3GHz
GPU Intel HD Graphics 630
Memory 16GB DDR4
Storage 2x 256GB SSD

Commentary

We have a lot of computers, and keep wanting more, so it is likely this page will have more in the future! (In fact, it is missing several things already, like a raspberry pi, an old laptop, portable installs, router, etc.) We’ll get to documenting these eventually, with the hope of having our whole mythological pantheon listed in one place. But for now (as of 2026-01-04), that’s our systems!

  1. Framework has since done some… questionable things. Specifically, sponsoring Hyprland and shouting out Omarchy. A lot of discussion can be found in this thread. This was done under a “Big Tent Policy”, as put by the Framework CEO. Framework seems to have done research into Hyprland and sound that they had improved moderation, as well as seemingly not continued supporting Omarchy, however it still gives me notable reason to not necessarily recommend purchasing from them. In my case, I still occasionally purchase parts from them to maintain my laptop, but I don’t intend to purchase another full laptop from them.↩︎

  2. Is One UI an OS? Unclear↩︎

  3. Will be switching to US Mobile soon↩︎

  4. This makes Daedalus technically a transfem server. Go woke or go broke.↩︎

  5. The second rack server was a useless Dell R330 that previously held the Hestia moniker. It had 4gb of RAM and a Pentium CPU. We tried to make it work, we tried.↩︎

  6. We own an EPSON TM-m30II-NT receipt printer! Easily the best $50 purchase we’ve ever made. We’ll likely make another page detailing it at some point, but for now, know that receipt printers are awesome.↩︎
